Nintendo Files Application to Trademark ‘Code Name S.T.E.A.M.’

Nintendo of America has registered an application to the USPTO for obtaining the trademark for ‘Code Name S.T.E.A.M. Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace’ the past week. This application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office was lodged on April 2, 2014, by Nintendo of America and it appears to indicate a new game title. No logo or additional information or details related to the intended platform for Code Name S.T.E.A.M. is available.

The name of the title indicate that this may be a shooter or tactical game of some sort pitting humans against battle against some aliens, but information about it is very scarce. In fact, there is nothing that express which console this game will be released on or whether it is, in the first place, even a game or not. Anyway, whether this is a game or application, the gamers will have to wait a while until Nintendo is good and ready to communicate Code: S.T.E.A.M. to the gaming world.

However, we have to keep in mind that a registration for a trademark doesn’t mean that there will be a consumer product, as over the past few years Nintendo has applied for registrations of terms like Eternal Darkness and Zii.

In the interim, Nintendo is hosting a Super Smash Bros. Direct on April 8, 2014, at 3pm PT / 6pm ET/ 11pm GMT. It should be seen what Nintendo will show of the upcoming Wii U and 3DS game, though the release date of the title is still unknown.
