Will it be better to file an international application or file it directly, when filing a trademark application in Japan?
It would is better to file the international application, if the applicant collectively wishes to manage the renewal procedures after the registration. Filing an application thus will be more convenient and the expense involved will only be less.
However, the problem is that the preferred terminology used to designate the goods/services is strictly limited in Japan. This means that the terminology for the goods/services (particularly a new service) in one country may be different from the preferred terminology in Japan. Thus, if the applicant fills the application directly, it would allow him to file an application using terminology in accord with the Japanese practice.
