How is the indication of Registered Trademark In Japan?
Under the Japanese Trademark Law, indication of “Registered Mark” is not strictly requested, but the trademark owner is recommended to indicate in Japanese words the registered trademark.
It should also be noted that attaching the word “Registered Mark” to the unregistered marks will be deemed as misrepresentation of the mark and such misrepresentation is considered as a criminal act punishable by law.
Contrary to this, it should also be known that the use of “®” mark is not officially accepted in Japan and that it would pose little problem to use “®” mark attached to the unregistered mark in Japan.
